COPPERAS COVE – Copperas Cove ISD continues to lead the region in student achievement, as indicated on state-mandated assessments.
Wednesday, CCISD released scores on STAAR exams to parents of students in 3rd-8th grades after releasing STAAR end-of-course exams last week.
On 12 of 18 available exam scores, Copperas Cove ISD remains on pace with or surpasses the state and region. Of those 18 tests, CCISD saw improved results on 12 subjects.
“These scores illustrate just some of the amazing things that take place in Copperas Cove ISD and show that our district remains on track to be a regional leader,” said Superintendent Dr. Brent Hawkins. “While there is so much more to show how our district truly impacts students on a daily basis, these results prove that our district is on the right track and shows where we have opportunities for growth. I’m incredibly proud of every student, parent and staff member who had a part in these positive results.”
The State of Texas states a passing score on state-mandated assessments as “Approaches Grade Level.” Above approaches, scores which meet a higher threshold are deemed as “Meets Grade Level” or “Masters Grade Level.”
In reading, CCISD saw year-over-year increases in 4th-grade passing rates, as well as at both 4th and 5th grades at “Meets.” CCISD also saw an increase of students who scored at “Masters.”
CCISD saw across-the-board growth in 4th-grade math, as well as increases in passing rate and at “Meets” in 5th-grade math.
Moving to junior high, CCISD saw across-the-board growth in reading, highlighted by a 5% increase at 6th-grade “Masters” and 8th-grade “Approaches,” a 7% increase at 7th-grade “Masters,” an 8% increase in 7th-grade “Approaches” and a 13% percent increase in 7th-grade “Meets.”
“In the years since CCISD implemented its focused early literacy initiative for the youngest Bulldawgs, we have seen continued growth in reading,” Dr. Hawkins said. “Our district truly believes that if a student can read, they have the ability to learn anything and are set up for a lifetime of learning and success. These scores emphasize how important that work is and I look forward to seeing it impact more of our students for the rest of their lives.”
In junior high math, CCISD once again saw across-the-board growth. In 6th grade, the district saw a 10% increase at “Approaches,” 17% at “Meets” and 9% at “Masters.”
Seventh grade saw similar increases at “Approaches” and “Masters,” with a 13% increase in passing rate and another 9% increase at “Masters.” But, at “Meets Grade Level,” CCISD saw an 18% increase.
Finally, in STAAR end-of-course exams for subjects required in 9th-12th grades, the district saw growth on each exam. In Algebra I, which includes primarily 8th-grade students as Cove follows an accelerated math model, CCISD saw passing rates remain steady and increases at both “Meets” and “Masters.” When looked at by campus, CCISD 8th-graders taking the high school Algebra I exam out-performed the State and Region, with more than 83% of students passing the exam. Across Region 12 and the state, 82% of students passed the Algebra I exam.
The same is true in Biology, as well. In English I, more Cove students passed and scored at “Meets,” with English II seeing across-the-board increases. On the U.S. History exam, scores remained steady, with a slight increase at “Meets.”
The Texas Education Agency is currently projected to release A-F accountability ratings later this summer. In the previous four ratings cycles, Copperas Cove ISD has received a “B” rating. In 2025, CCISD was the TEA’s highest-rated public school district in the greater Fort Hood area.
Copperas Cove ISD is accepting applications for transfers at no cost to families, opening CCISD’s award-winning academic programs, and its 50 industry-based certifications, to students in nearby neighborhoods. For more information on Copperas Cove ISD, parents are invited to visit www.CCISD.com.
